The City Of Long Beach - 1432 Words

The city of Long Beach has an abundance of culture, resources, diversity and means. This reflection is what attracts many people to visit downtown, attend school and other surrounding vicinities. At the close of Fiscal Year 2015, â€Å"the City’s assets increased $118.9 million, or 3.5 percent from the prior fiscal year. Citywide, assets increased $282.3 million or 5.0 percent† (Finance, 2016). The report also states, â€Å"sales tax revenues increased 8.6 percent or $5.1 million. Other taxes, inclusive of transient occupancy and business taxes increased 937 percent or $4.0 million (Finance, 2016). Residents and visitors vast amount of travel and contributions to the city, allows those funds to be allocated to other public services in the community.†¦show more content†¦Although it is a big issue, according to the interview done Greg Yee of the Press Telegram, â€Å"A city spokesman and the director of the city’s Health and Human Services Department sa y increasing numbers of the city’s homeless and homeless veterans are being housed and provided mental health, substance abuse, counseling and other services† (2013). This confirms with what Century Villages at Cabrillo is currently doing. According to Century Villages at Cabrillo website, â€Å"provides housing on any given night to over 1,000 persons. These include veteran and non-veteran individuals, families, youth and children who are housed within CVC’s robust continuum of supportive housing, ranging from shelter, to transitional housing, to permanent housing† (2016).However, in 2013, US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) release a report stating, â€Å"The city also has the ninth largest population for large cities of chronically homeless individuals with 1,112 chronically homeless living in shelters and on the streets and the 10th largest population of homeless veterans in the country† (HUD, 2016). Even though programs exist, homelessness continues to grow without any solutions. According to the Port of Long Beach website, â€Å"Total operating revenues for fiscal year 2015 were $355.4 million† (2016). This is an enormous amount of revenue coming into Long Beach along with tourism.
